16 Year Old Murderer

It was just an average evening for Eric Boyles that was until he got the call that his wife and little girl had just been murdered. Not the type of murder that most people think of, but in a major car accident taking four people’s lives. Behind the wheel of that car causing all of the deaths was drunken 16 year old, Ethan Couch. The verdict in the case was ruled that he be sentenced to 10 years’ probation, but no jail time. Now what makes this kid any different than the murders behind bars? They have killed and are paying the price, now so must he. This came as a shocking surprise to the victims’ families, and to the public. When the prosecutors were asking for 20 years behind bars, yet the judge let him walk off with nothing but probation to worry about. Lawyers for Couch in the case claimed that the boy’s parents should take some sort of responsibility for the crash, because of the way they spoiled the boy, giving him anything he wanted. Is there not a time when one needs to stand up and face the cold hard truth? This kid chose to drink and drive, now he wants to blame his parents? This makes no sense on any level. His parents where nowhere near him when he got in that car, knowing he was under the influence. Lawyers say that couch suffers from a type of “affluenza” and that a year or two away from home and being spoiled, should make everything okay. Earlier that night Couch and a few of his friends were caught on camera stealing alcohol from a Walmart. After the accident he blew a .24 blood alcohol level, this being three times the legal limit. The courts want to let him off with just probation, but now we are not just dealing with a underage drinker but a thief? I cannot believe the lack of attention present to details in the courtroom. My final thought is this, the kid not only stole, but drank underage. And on this same night he did not kill, he murdered FOUR innocent people. He is no different then those that we lock up in a prison. Yet this kid is allowed to walk of scott free only having ten years probation. Weather you are under eighteen or not. Murder should always be tried as an adult. Murder does not conceive two definitions, there is only one.
