The Winter Enemy

Nobody likes it, but it is something we have to get used to driving for 3 months of the year here in the mid-west, and that is, dare I say it, SNOW. This is by far the most hazardous type of condition to drive in. Yes heavy rain is bad and can sometimes but very rarely cause you to lose control. But snow is a game that no one can win. Not even the big bad trucks with four wheel drive can withstand the big white beast. It sneaks up on us at night, and leaves us with horrible ice and snow covered roads for when we wake up. Traction, there is no such word in this condition. Between you and the solid cement grounds is a layer of ice, and on top of that a layer of snow. NO tire in the world can work on an inch of ice. You can have the biggest, most hardcore truck on the market worth a million dollars, and the ice and snow monster will crush the truck, scratch that, it can make the truck crush itself. No traction means you cannot stop when you want to. When you go around a corner it is natural to have your foot on the break. To be honest in snow it doesn’t matter weather your foot is on the break or not. The ice will choose your fate. Will it let u slow down, or will it send you into the curb. Only time can tell. Snow leaves us with no school, it can cause deaths, it can cause huge car pile ups. Snow itself is some sort of terrorist, causing terror among those who come face to face with it. Only this is not a terrorist we can fight or defeat. There is no specific way to prepare for the three month long war we fight every year. We only know what to expect, that may help us survive. Negative temperatures, horrible driving conditions, ice, snow, deaths, accidents, Dead car batteries, snow drifts etc. This is a foe that we have come to realize, no matter how hard we try to fight back, in some way, we will always lose. We can come up with ways to prevent the inevitable. But there is a certain reason we refer to it as the inevitable, because it is going to happen at some point or another. And we will never see it coming.
